What Is a K-pop POB? Pre-order Benefits Explained

If you have ever tried to buy a K-pop album online, you may have seen the letters POB next to a store name, album version, or photocard preview.

Then the questions start. Is a POB just another photocard? Does every pre-order include one? Why does the same album have different photocards depending on the store? And if you buy a set, do you automatically get every member?

The short answer is: not always.

POB usually means Pre-order Benefit. It is an extra benefit offered to customers who meet the conditions of a specific pre-order event. The important word is extra: a POB is not automatically the same thing as the items that already come inside the album.

POB Meaning in K-pop

POB = Pre-order Benefit.

In K-pop shopping, the term usually refers to a bonus item offered during an eligible pre-order event. Photocards are one of the most common examples, which is why fans often talk about store POBs, member POBs, random POBs, or POB sets.

But a POB does not have to be a photocard. Official campaigns can also include photo tickets, stickers, keyrings, acrylic items, or other promotional gifts. The safest definition is: a POB is an extra benefit attached to an eligible pre-order according to the rules of that specific event.

Album Inclusion vs POB: What Is the Difference?

This is the most important distinction for beginners.

If an album specification says something like “Photocard: Random 1 out of 3,” that card may simply be part of the album package. SMTOWN GLOBAL, for example, lists photocards inside the album specification together with the photobook, CD, stickers, and other components.

A POB is different. It is an additional benefit linked to a purchase condition, store, or promotional period.

Why Does the Same Album Have Different Store POBs?

K-pop retailers sometimes run their own exclusive pre-order promotions. The physical album can be the same while the bonus image or item is different.

YG SELECT, for example, has advertised an exclusive pre-order benefit photocard for eligible versions. This is why collectors may ask, “Which store POB do you want?” They may be choosing between different bonus cards attached to the same release, not different albums.

That does not mean every store always has a different POB. Check the actual event notice before ordering.

Random POB vs Set POB

A benefit described as random 1 out of 9 means you receive one item selected from nine possible versions. A set purchase may offer more benefits, but the rules are not universal.

Weverse’s &TEAM “Mark on Me” notice is a useful example. Some products gave one random benefit per album, while one SOLO version set offered nine photocards without duplicates. Other sets in the same campaign followed different benefit rules.

Ktown4u also shows why exact wording matters: one NMIXX event gave one random photocard per album, while purchases of six or more could receive all six without duplicates. Set products had their own benefit quantities.

Never assume that “SET” automatically means every member. Look for wording such as “without duplicates,” “full set,” “random,” or “1 per set.”

What Is an Early-Bird POB?

Some campaigns have a shorter Early-Bird period inside the full pre-order period.

In the &TEAM example, the early-bird benefit ended before the normal pre-order benefit period. A customer could still be pre-ordering the album but no longer qualify for the early-bird gift.

So do not check only whether the album is still in pre-order. Also check whether the specific benefit period is still active.

Does Every Album Version Get the Same POB?

No. Different versions may have different benefits, and some versions may be excluded.

YG SELECT’s JISOO [CLICK] event stated that selected versions received an exclusive selfie photocard, while the VINYL version did not receive the purchase benefit.

Before ordering, confirm the exact version: photobook, platform, member, random, set, vinyl, or another special edition.

The POB Deadline May Be Different From the Album Sale Period

Another common mistake is assuming that if the album is still available, the POB must still be available too.

Ktown4u event pages can list a separate POB deadline. Some benefits may also end early when the prepared quantity sells out.

If the bonus matters to you, check the event deadline before paying.

Before You Buy, Check These 5 Things

1. Store

Which retailer is providing the benefit? Do not assume another store gives the same card.

2. Event Period

Check the exact start and end time. International buyers should pay attention to KST.

3. Album Version

Confirm that the exact version in your cart is eligible.

4. Random or Set

Read words such as random, set, without duplicates, and full set carefully.

5. Benefit Quantity

Check how many benefits are provided per album or per set. Do not calculate only from the number of albums in your cart.

Does Buying More Albums Guarantee Every POB?

Not necessarily. Some promotions promise non-duplicate benefits after a certain quantity; others remain random. Even within one campaign, different products can follow different rules.

If completing every member is your goal, look for an explicit promise such as “without duplicates” or “full set.”

Are All POBs Photocards?

No. Photocards are common, but official campaigns also use photo tickets, stickers, keyrings, acrylic items, and other gifts. Always check what the benefit actually is.

POB vs Lucky Draw

POBs and Lucky Draws both appear in K-pop album collecting, but they should not automatically be treated as the same event. A Lucky Draw can have its own dates, rules, and participation conditions.

For this guide, remember: POB → check the pre-order benefit conditions. Lucky Draw will be covered separately.
